Some Other Global Problems

In addition to unemployment, there are many other gigantic and horrendous problems agitating our planet and its people, especially poverty and war. Approximately 10% of our population (630 million people) are living in dire poverty. Of these 630,000,000 people, who are compelled to live in extremely degrading circumstances, approximately 2% of them (12.6 million people) die each year from poverty related disease, that is 34,000 people die each day simply because they are poor (3,600 every hour), mainly children but also women and men. This holocaust must end. We cannot continue to allow anything or anybody to kill 12,600,000 people every year. Third world development agencies differ slightly in their assessment of how many die, but the figure represent approximately, one person dying every three seconds as a result of poverty. This same poverty forces 246,000,000 children to work for almost nothing, and many millions of children, again because of poverty, are “forced” into prostitution. Hand in hand with this poverty we have extraordinary wealth. The hundred richest people in the world earn the same amount of money as the two billion poorest (i.e. approximately one third of the world’s population). This inequality of opportunity is causing unimaginable misery, suffering, disease, and death.

We have nuclear bombs ready and capable of being used, and if they are, whole populations, nations or even continents could be totally devastated, these bombs may have the capacity to kill every human being on the planet. We have sufficient chemical, biological and conventional weapons to kill hundreds of millions of our brothers and sisters. Much of what is happening on planet Earth today is very destructive, uncaring and extremely dangerous, to the extent that it threatens not just human society, but even the planet itself. The dreadful catalogue of difficulties from which mankind is suffering, is too long and complicated to be dealt with here, the following is but a short list:
Extreme Poverty - Unemployment - War - Terrorism - Genocide - Refugees - Famine - Disease... especially Aids - Child Labour and Child Prostitution - Nuclear Bombs - Dangerous Nuclear Plants - Unfair Trading - Crippling Debts - Drug Trafficking - Lawlessness - Lack of Education - Global Warming - Pollution - Hole in Ozone Layer - Land Erosion: truly the list could go on and on.

The greatest problem of all, is the fact that our planet does not have any proper form of government, because no organisation is mandated to govern the world. The Presidents and Prime Ministers of the world are mandated to look after their own countries, that is their responsibility and that is what they do, but nobody looks after the planet itself. Nobody has been given that responsibility; it lies, and must lie, in the hands of the people of the world. When we take on that responsibility we will have a government. The people of the world have been moving slowly in this direction for many years. We are now poised and ready to take on that responsibility and when we do the above problems will be solved and the human race will advance towards astounding new levels of prosperity.
